Wet and mild weather in Lawrence’s forecast

Scattered showers and mild temperature will keep Lawrence warm and wet today.

“We have several chances for rainfall,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “It looks like quite a wet day.”

Showers started about 3:30 a.m. and were steady for about two hours, Schack said. Since 6 a.m., the rains began dissipating, leaving only scattered showers in the morning. Lawrence Municipal Airport had recorded 0.1 of an inch by 8 a.m.

“We will be in and out of those morning showers, with another chance for showers this afternoon,” Schack said. The National Weather Service said the chances for rain are 80 percent today and 60 percent tonight.

Temperatures were in the upper 50s this morning and were expected to climb to 60 at noon and reach a high of 61 this afternoon, Schack said.

Overnight, there’s a chance for an isolated shower, withe the low dropping to 49 by Friday morning, she said.

Lawrence also might get an isolated shower on Friday afternoon, with the high reaching 56 under mostly cloudy skies, Schack said. The National Weather Service says there’s a 40 percent chance for rain Friday.

Saturday’s morning low will be 39, with the high reaching 50 under partly cloudy skies. A cold front will be moving through, bringing a possibility of some rain Saturday night. The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance of rain on Saturday and a 20 percent Saturday night.

Colder temperatures will arrive Sunday through Tuesday, with morning lows in the low 30s and afternoon highs in the 40s, she said.
