To the editor,
Since this recent political program has proven successful for the Bush-Cheney team, it should remind citizens how they have been misinformed. The front page of the Oct. 10 issue of the Washington Post carried a headline "Bush's agenda favors big oil."
People should understand how oil has been treated far more seriously as a resource so vital to American prosperity that access to it must be protected at any cost, including the use of military force.
I believe that for the past 40 years, military force has frequently been used to guarantee access to foreign oil. Our country now relies on imported oil for more than half of its total supply.
As long as we continue to support the Bush-Cheney regime, we will continue to ignore the more beneficial sources of energy such as wind and solar. Oil will continue to provide a slippery path for our democracy.
