A Fox News fan

To the editor:

I read in amazement Kathie Nichols Nov. 11 rant regarding Steve Doocy of Fox News Channel speaking at a Lawrence Chamber of Commerce event. I believe Ms. Nichols’ vitriol toward Fox illuminates why left-leaning individuals cannot understand the recent national election.

I agree Fox reports from a more conservative perspective than other outlets. But, who believes CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, PBS, NPR, etc., report the unprejudiced truth? At least Fox presents multiple perspectives. Does Ms. Nichols contend that Fox contributors Alan Colmes, Mara Liasson, Juan Williams, Susan Estrich, Eleanor Clift, Geraldine Ferraro, et. al., are conservative shills? And yes, we all saw “Outfoxed” — one of many recent “documentaries” produced by honest journalists without bias or agenda (ahem).

What diversity of perspective do the traditional networks offer? Mark Halperin’s definition of equal accountability or perhaps Dan Rather’s hubris in foisting forged memos? Politically minded conservatives have the same contempt for the traditional media that Ms. Nichols has for Fox. It’s a new day and the left no longer monopolizes “the truth.”

Ms. Nichols may believe that “Fox News is not news,” but a growing percentage of Americans do. This election was, in part, a rejection of traditional media bias. Frustrated conservatives don’t seek to silence today’s traditionally biased media. It’s more effective to present a better message via different outlets. Perhaps like-minded people, as Ms. Nichols, should worry more about presenting a better message than trying to burn the books of those who disagree.
