New J-W design more reader-friendly

You're reading an improved version of the Journal-World.

Starting today, the print version of the newspaper is adding some features and reorganizing others to make the entire package more relevant to your life, easier to navigate and better organized.

The biggest changes are in the "features" sections, those you've come to know as "Arts & Living," "Living," "18 & Under," "Food," "Faith" and "Scene."

Those topic-driven sections are gone. In their place every day is "Pulse." This new section still will carry the daily topics you're familiar with while allowing more flexibility for us to cover a broader range of topics in a more timely fashion.

The front of Pulse each day will include a listing of events and shows, along with the stories and other information you've come to expect.

Inside Pulse, you will find a couple of features that had been in the main news section: The daily "Best Bets" column of ideas for things to do around Lawrence moves from page 2A to Marquee, a new page inside Pulse from Tuesday through Saturday. Also making the move is "Tune In," Kevin McDonough's look at the day's best television. Marquee also is where you'll find performance reviews and other information about arts and entertainment.

Other changes:

  • In Business, the weekly expanded stock tables move to Sunday from Saturday.
  • In Lawrence & State, we've reorganized pages 2B and 3B to allow more event listings in a better-organized daily "Lawrence Datebook" and law enforcement report.
  • In this section, we've added "Today's Quick Read" on page 2A to give you a glance at the top news when you don't have time for more. And we've created separate "Nation" and "World" pages to make it easier for you to find what you're looking for.

We hope you like the changes. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact Richard Brack, the managing editor, at 832-7194, or by e-mail to rbrack@ljworld.com.
