A chocolate tax?

To the editor:

OK, I’m a smoker, not a criminal. I made a bad choice earlier in life to freely pollute my lungs and have always been a very conscientious smoker. It’s a terrible habit, and if you ask most smokers, they want to quit but are scared of one thing or another. But I am so tired of being made to feel the only solution to every money problem in the government will be fixed by taxing smokers, again.

Is obesity not also a problem in this country, which also contributes to higher health care costs? How about a 1 cent tax on all chocolate items? Almost everyone eats chocolate so almost everyone would be contributing to the state’s better welfare.
