To the editor:
Dave Strano attacks my letter of inmate health care, which did not include anything about hepatitis C (Public Forum, Nov. 4). I specifically mentioned breast implants for male inmates, gender changes, organ and dialysis treatments for those on death row for an extensive length of time, while other law-abiding citizens didn't get a chance to make the organ waiting list.
I told of specific cases, not those suspected of having a disease. Of course I want the inmates to get the care to avoid the disease, just like the normal population. You have twisted my words into something I didn't include. If the inmates are suspected of having the disease, they should be tested and helped. There's a difference, and I hope I can make the legislators understand. Apparently, Mr. Strano didn't understand what I said.
Mary Ann Kieffer,
Lawrence
