Voting morals
To the editor:
It’s over. President Bush has won. Why did that happen? The exit polls data showed that President Bush won because of “moral” issues. What are moral issues? Since I voted for Bush, here’s what moral issues were for me.
First, I and the voters like me are for the sanctity of life. We oppose the barbaric, violent killing of the innocent unborn. That includes both abortion and fetal stem cell research. We know that there are more babies aborted every three months in the United States than have died in both of the Iraq wars on both sides. And so, even though we also want the Iraq conflict to subside; we even more want a president who will stand with us in protecting the sanctity of life.
Second, we recognize that marriage is an institution invented by God for a man and a woman only. In almost every Christian marriage ceremony, that fact is brought out. It was a definition of marriage even before this country existed. President Bush believes this also.
Last, we wanted a leader who we believe has a real relationship between himself and God — even if he misses God’s voice once in a while. Those were the issues that I and much of the majority were most concerned with. And we voted our convictions.
