To the editor:
After 56 years of being a Democrat (liberal?) I have seen the light. After all, if 51 percent of my fellow Americans think President Bush deserves being elected after all that has happened over the last four years, so be it. As of today, I am going to join with them and embrace the compassionate, Christian, conservative values.
No more caring about the working poor. No more caring about helping those in need. No need to worry any more about after-school programs for America's children; after all, my children are all grown up. No more worrying about the millions of Americans in poverty and without jobs and health care; that's their problem, not mine.
Besides, there is a simple solution to resolve these issues. Since tax cuts are good for all Americans, why not really spur the economy and cut all federal Income taxes by 50 percent. That would put some real money into our pockets. I know that I definitely could use the extra cash and, unlike others, I would spend it, not save it. In fact, the first thing I would want to buy would be a shoulder-held rocket-launcher. One can never have enough weapons around to protect their family. Especially, considering all of the military-like Humvees that are showing up around town.
