Sunny skies expected today

Sunny skies and highs in the 60s are in store for Lawrence today.

“The great weather continues for the first part of the week — plenty of sunshine, pleasant temperatures and not much to complain about.” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s a beautiful morning,” Schack said. “Grab those sunglasses and grab your coat.”

Temperatures dipped to a low of 34 degrees this morning, shortly before 8 a.m. But temperatures were expected to rise to 61 by noon and top out at 64 by 4 p.m., with a few high thin clouds and southeast winds 8 to 12 mph.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to 42 by early Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be more breezy with southwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Tuesday’s high temperature will be 66.

Temperatures will fall Tuesday night and reach a low of 45 by early Wednesday morning.

Clouds will thicken up on Wednesday, with showers expected on Wednesday afternoon and a high of 59, Schack said.

The National Weather Service says the chance for showers and possibly thunderstorms is 60 percent on Wednesday afternoon. There’s a 50 percent chance for showers on Wednesday night.
