To the editor:
I attended a KU football game by myself this past September. I parked my car in the vicinity of 11th and Tennessee. The next morning I told my wife how dark it was walking to my car alone and even remarked how scary that would be if one were an unaccompanied female.
Never realizing how prophetic that would be, I was saddened to read about the rape of a KU student in that general area.
I do not know if there are simply not enough street lights or if the existing lights do not have enough power. Perhaps it is a combination of the two. Bottom line -- the streets, at least in that area, are way too dark.
I am aware that Lawrence has had various honors in regards to being a very livable city. I have confidence that the city fathers will address this issue.
