The Roger Hill Volunteer Center has published its annual "How to Help at the Holidays" brochure, which provides information on many volunteer and holiday donation opportunities in the community.
The brochure details how volunteers may assist different charitable organizations, adopt-a-family and adopt-a-child programs, and when volunteers are needed to assist with free holiday community meals.
The brochure is available by calling the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, or by visiting any Lawrence-area Capitol Federal Savings branch or the United Way Center, 2518 Ridge Court.
Immediate volunteer needs
- Brandon Woods Retirement Community will be decorating for the holiday season from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 21, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Volunteers are needed to help hang decorations and lights, put together Christmas trees, and bring the spirit of the season to the residents. For more information, call Carol Kellogg at 838-8000.
- The Strategic Learning Center will have its second annual Band Together for Learning event on Jan. 22 at Liberty Hall, 642 Mass., and volunteers are needed now to make the event a success. Volunteers will assist with planning the event, making arrangements, fund-raising and collecting donations for the silent auction. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Strategic Learning Center, a nonprofit tutoring center providing one-on-one and small-group tutoring to students of all ages and backgrounds. For more information, contact Rose Foster, 331-3236.
- Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass., needs volunteers to work in Miss Lizzie's Gifts, the museum gift shop. Volunteers will welcome and assist visitors to the shop, make sales and display the merchandise. The museum is also in need of new greeters. Volunteers can sign up for short, once-a-week shifts or more, if they wish. These are also great volunteer opportunities for interested teenagers to do after school and on Saturdays. For more information, please call Patsy at 841-4109.
