Windy conditions await voters

If you’re headed out to the Election Day polls today, cloudy skies and chilly temperatures await. And hold onto your ballots — the winds will be gusting up to 30 mph.

“Those winds, that’s what kind of hits you in the face this morning,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “It’s a blustery day, with the winds staying out of the north and east.”

As Election Day polls opened at 7 a.m., a 12-to-18-mph wind, gusting up into the mid 20s, was creating a wind chill in the low 40s, Schack said.

Temperatures are expected to be 48 by noon and stay at 48 through 4 p.m. with winds between 13 and 18 mph, gusting up to 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 37. The weather service says there’s a 20 percent chance of rain after midnight.

Schack says to prepare yourself for a cold, wet Wednesday, with rain expected after the noon hour and the high reaching only 45. The weather service is predicting a 60 percent chance for rain on Wednesday and a 20 percent chance Wednesday night.

Thursday’s morning low will drop to 37, with more breezy conditions and the high reaching 51 by Thursday afternoon under partly cloudy skies.
