Democrats win in Free State mock election

Lawrence Free State High School students overwhelmingly picked Democratic candidates in a mock election Monday.

Democrat John Kerry won 62 percent of the presidential vote. President George W. Bush, a Republican, got 32 percent. Ralph Nader or other candidates received 5.5 percent.

Democrat Nancy Boyda won 61 percent of the vote for the Kansas 2nd Congressional District race, while incumbent Republican Jim Ryun picked up 39 percent.

For the Kansas 3rd Congressional District race, incumben Democrat Dennis Moore won with 73 percent of the vote, with Republican Kris Kobach getting 27 percent of the student vote.

About 335 of the school’s approximately 1,200 students voted in the election.
