Watkins museum seeking regular volunteers

Agency: Watkins Community Museum of History

Address: 1047 Mass.

Contact: Patsy, 841-4109

The Watkins Community Museum of History needs volunteers to work in Miss Lizzie’s Gifts, the museum gift shop. Volunteers will welcome and assist visitors to the shop, make sales and display merchandise. The museum is also in need of new greeters. Volunteers can sign up for short, once-a-week shifts, or more if they wish. These are also great volunteer opportunities for interested teenagers to do after school and on Saturdays.

Immediate volunteer needs

Lawrence Memorial Hospital needs volunteers in several areas. A volunteer is needed to work from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays in the Treatment and Procedure Center. Volunteer responsibilities will range from preparing rooms between patients, stocking supplies and patient transport to light clerical duties.

Volunteer transporters and errand runners are needed for morning shifts from 8 a.m. to noon on either Monday or Thursday. Potential volunteers must be in good health and able to walk long distances throughout the hospital. They also must be able to learn locations of places in the hospital and be able to assist with wheelchair transport of patients and visitors.

Anyone interested in becoming a hospital volunteer may call the volunteer office at LMH to learn about these and other opportunities. The volunteer office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 840-3141 or e-mail alleland@lmh.org.

  • The Jayhawk Support Services for Elders program is seeking volunteers to provide financial management assistance to seniors 60 and older. Volunteers will help with bill paying, checkbook balancing and asset management. Volunteers are screened, trained and bonded. Training sessions include financial and legal issues affecting seniors. To sign up for training or for more information, call Ted Tennehill, JSSE project coordinator, at (785) 354-8531.
