Briefly

Investigation continues in March 14 fatality

More than two months after a driver struck and killed a pedestrian outside a Kansas University fraternity and sorority party, the investigation into the wreck isn’t complete.

Devin Scott Emery, 20, Wichita, died early March 14 after being struck by a Chevrolet Suburban as he walked along U.S. Highway 24-40 near Teepee Junction. He had come to visit friends at KU and was outside a party celebrating the end of Rock Chalk Revue.

Ken McGovern, Douglas County undersheriff, said the Sheriff’s Office still was awaiting lab results from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, which analyzes blood samples and other physical evidence for law enforcement agencies statewide.

Once the sheriff’s report is finished, it will be forwarded to Dist. Atty. Christine Kenney’s office for consideration of criminal charges.

Because the investigation is still open, sheriff’s officials have declined to identify the driver of the Suburban or to release details of the collision.
