Scare tactics

To the editor:

The Rev. Scott Hanks has saved your soul by warning you about evil homosexuals. He says “they can only reproduce by preying on others” and that they are “abominations to God” (Journal-World, May 19). You should thank the reverend for preparing you for your encounters with such monsters.

However, chances are that you already know a homosexual but don’t realize it. You see, homosexuals often blend in with the crowd. One could be in your workplace. One could be a member of your favorite football team. One could be in your bingo group. One could even be in your family. Lock your doors. Leave your lights on. Whatever you do, don’t fall asleep, for you may be replaced by a gay pod person.

In reality, Hanks and other people are using scare tactics not unlike those from the days of the Salem witch trials and McCarthyism. They are taking advantage of people’s ignorance and are using fear to promote their own frightening agendas. People need to step back and see that homosexuals are not monsters out to get them or their children; rather, they are human beings who simply want to be treated equally.
