Clinton lecture tickets available Wednesday

Tickets will be available Wednesday for former President Clinton’s lecture later this month at the Lied Center.

Free tickets can be picked up beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lied Center box office. Those wanting tickets should enter the building’s west lobby entrance.

They also are available by calling 864-2787. There is a $3 service charge for tickets ordered by phone.

There is a two-ticket limit per person.

Clinton will speak at 2:15 p.m. May 21 for the inaugural Dole Lecture through the Dole Institute of Politics.

Student with meningitis placed on respirator

Kansas City, Kan. — A Kansas University student battling bacterial meningitis was back on a respirator Monday.

Andy Marso, 22, a senior from St. Cloud, Minn., was in critical condition at University of Kansas Hospital, a nursing supervisor said. His condition had been upgraded to serious as recently as Friday.

“He’s pretty heavily sedated,”said Malcolm Gibson, general manager of the University Daily Kansan, the KU student newspaper, and the family’s spokesman. “The main thing is to clear up the pneumonia. He has made some progress, but there is still a long road to hoe here.”

Marso was diagnosed with meningitis April 28.

Marso has cleared all of his classes and will be a graduate this spring, Gibson said.

Hospital to report progress to public

Lawrence Memorial Hospital will release its annual report Wednesday at a public reception.

The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., with refreshments in the atrium of the hospital, 325 Maine. A presentation begins at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s auditorium.

The annual report, called “Simply … the Best,” highlights the hospital’s accomplishments and programs of the past year and will be distributed at the reception.

Concert to raise money for volunteer program

Four local bands will perform this week to raise money for the Alternative Breaks program at Kansas University.

The concert is at 9 p.m. Wednesday at The Granada, 1020 Mass. Admission is $5.

Bands scheduled to play include Kozmo, The Bombs of August, Mark Lyda Combo and Three Rivers Kennedy.

The Alternative Breaks program offers volunteer opportunities during spring and winter breaks and on weekends throughout the school year.
