Lawrence ranks high on Forbes business poll

Lawrence is the sixth best small metropolitan area in the country for business and careers, according to a new ranking from Forbes magazine.

The city has been ranked in the top 20 since the business and finance magazine began the rankings in 2000, but the sixth place finish is the community’s highest ranking. Last year the metro area, which includes all of Douglas County, was ranked No. 7.

Forbes cited the city’s high number of residents with college or advanced degrees as a major reason for its high ranking.

Lawrence was the highest ranked city in Kansas, and was the second highest ranked city in the five-state Midwest region. Lincoln, Neb., was ranked No. 4. Sioux Falls, S.D., was the top ranked metro area.
