City is wrong

To the editor:

Enough already! For the city commissioners to quietly take the taxpayers for a $140,000 — that’s a HUNDRED AND FORTY THOUSAND-dollar — bilking in their effort to block a new Wal-Mart store is ludicrous. It is a heckuva price to pay for the “city fathers'” refusal to admit their own mistakes. Since there is little concern for our tax dollars, it apparently seems like small change to these guys. Attempting to draw a fine line between a “department” store and a “variety” store is just plain silly.

At a time when our streets are begging for repair, there are MANY places where funding like this could be utilized. It is time to put a halt to such wasteful madness. The sooner the commissioners swallow their pride and douse their stubbornness, the better off we’ll all be. They were wrong. They knew they were wrong. They should just admit it and move on. Rules just aren’t changed on a whim in the middle of a game.
