Unkind comments

To the editor:

I read with dismay the comments being made and printed in the University Daily Kansan in regard to Kansas University basketball player David Padgett. The student newspaper, according to Chuck Woodling, calls this “freedom of speech,” but it sounds more like harassment to me and someone said it is slander.

There is no reason to print unsigned comments. It is too bad the harassers never learned that: “If you can’t say something nice or kind about a person don’t say anything,” or “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” or “If it isn’t something you would say to their face, don’t say it or print it; that’s the coward’s way.”

It would be better for KU if these students left and David stayed on. Harassment is not allowed in the workplace, so why is it allowed at KU? David won the Missouri game; what more do they want? Wishing you well in life, David, and sorry your experience at KU was so unpleasant.

Nancy Leak,
