Area schoolchildren can stay active during next week’s spring break with the help of the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department.

A structured program for children ages 5-12 includes field trips, swimming, arts and crafts, movies and games. The activities are from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through March 26 at Holcom Park and Edgewood Park.

Participants pay $50 in addition to the cost of field trips.

Children ages 7-12 can attend the Prairie Park Nature Center camp during the same time. The camp will feature outdoor games, hiking and familiarizing with animals. The cost is $45 per participant.

Enrollment forms are available at any parks and recreation facilities.

Vietnam veteran’s wife to speak at museum

The wife of a Vietnam War veteran will share her experiences during a lecture Saturday at the Watkins Community Museum of History.

Shannon Musgrave, a registered nurse and co-founder of an Ottawa support group for spouses of combat veterans, will speak at 2 p.m. at the museum, 1047 Mass.

Musgrave’s presentation will focus on life with her husband, John Musgrave, who has written and published poetry that reflects on his duty in Vietnam.

The speech is part of the museum’s ongoing Vietnam War programming.
