Boyd Institute honors rural Lawrence couple

Two Lawrence residents are among the Huck Boyd National Institute for Rural Development’s “Leaders of the Year.”

Roger and Sue Pine, owners of Pine Family Farms northeast of Lawrence off Interstate 70, were among those honored. The couple’s business grows corn and soybeans but has also been selling turfgrass for the past decade.

The Leaders of the Year were narrowed down from features on the Kansas Profiles radio program, produced by the institute.

Seven other Kansans made the list.

The Huck Boyd Institute is a partnership between Kansas State University and the Huck Boyd Foundation. The institute’s mission is to “help rural people help themselves,” according to a prepared statement.
