To the editor:

I would like to respond to a letter concerning the West Junior High cheerleaders. What the cheerleaders wore was no more and no less than what everyday, school-going teenage girls wear. The top was a white exercise racer back that only showed our shoulder-blades. Our pants were low, yet we had another pair underneath, which were worn at an appropriate level.

To have the honor of being a West Junior High cheerleader, we have to maintain a certain high grade-point average. We work very hard at school and at practice to get where we are today. I completely understand when it is said that “school should be a place where girls use their heads, and not their tails.” The cheerleaders do what they are expected to in school and deserve the right and privilege of being a West Junior High cheerleader.

Before condemning someone or something, I believe that person should first take a look at their own reflection in the mirror. Please take a look at your son’s or daughter’s school and see how the girls in their school dress and how the staff members react to it. It’s amazing, when you look at yourself in the mirror, that you, too, have the same wrongdoings.
