U.S. priorities

To the editor:

U.S. citizens, including me, are wondering: Had Otto Reich, White House special envoy for the Western Hemisphere spent as much time and effort trying to resolve the political crisis in the Caribbean island of Haiti as he has spent seeking to punish U.S. citizens for traveling to the Caribbean island of Cuba, would U.S. citizens have had to flee Haiti for their lives last week? Would Port au Prince have been in flames last weekend? Would the United States have been put to the expense of deploying ships and troops to the island?

Thousands of Americans question your priorities, Mr. Reich.
