Shift on violence

To the editor:

The Journal-World’s recent story about some of this area’s evangelicals’ enthusiasm over Mel Gibson’s movie “The Passion of the Christ” disturbs me greatly.

Isn’t this the same crowd, those particular evangelicals, who have been complaining for many years about the blood and gore in today’s popular movies?

Now violent movies are OK, it appears, if they advance the agenda of a chosen faith.

My wife and I are Christian — Baptist, as a matter of fact — but neither of us has a desire to see “The Passion,” which looks suspiciously like another exploitation of our society’s fixation on bloody violence.
