Skies expected to begin clearing

If you were driving through northeast Kansas this morning, chances are you had to slow down — patches of dense fog greeted commuters in the area. However, the weather forecast for the Lawrence area calls for clearer skies later today.

“The cloud cover will begin to work its way out,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “We’ll see some sunshine by this afternoon.”

However, the temperatures will remain relatively cool today, with the high getting up to only 79 by 4 p.m., Schack said. The average high for this day is 88. Winds will be out of the northeast about 10 mph.

“Tomorrow, the warming trend will begin,” she said.

Tuesday morning will start out relatively cool, with the temperature about 58 at dawn. However, by late afternoon Tuesday, the temperature will climb to 83, under partly cloudy skies.

Warmer weather continues Wednesday, with the morning’s temperature starting at 60 and climbing to 87 by the afternoon under mostly sunny skies.

Schack said the early part of this week will be dry. But scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast Thursday through Saturday, she said.

During the weekend, Lawrence Municipal Airport recorded 0.78 of an inch of rain, with most of it falling between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday.
