Police investigating death of infant girl
A 2-month-old baby girl died Sunday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after police and emergency medical crews found her in full respiratory arrest, Lawrence Police said.
The cause of death for the girl, identified as Bailey Marie King, born April 27, will have to be determined by the Douglas County coroner, police said. There were no obvious signs of foul play, according to a police news release.
At 7:30 a.m. police responded to a medical emergency involving a baby not breathing in the 1200 block of George Court. An ambulance took the girl to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
No other information was available late Sunday.

Lawrence’s Great Race car still running strong
Despite windshield damage from a rock, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air driven by Lawrence high school students in a cross-country race continued to run well Sunday.
The car, shown above during a June 17 pit stop in Lawrence, was in second place as it headed toward Breckenridge, Colo., where it was to stop for the night, said Dave Tenpenny, auto mechanics instructor at Lawrence High School. A team of students from LHS and Free State High School entered the car in the Great Race X Cup Division. The race began a week ago in Jacksonville, Fla. It ends Saturday in Monterey, Calif.
Friday, as the car neared Hays, a rock kicked up by a tractor-trailer caused a silver-dollar-size nick in the front windshield. But the car was running well Sunday in the high Colorado mountain altitudes, Tenpenny said, even though some teams opted to haul their cars by trailer. Teams have a total of four days they can use during the race for towing or hauling purposes, he said.
