End of an era

To the editor:

We’re sure everyone is getting tired of all the complaining regarding the KU basketball point system, but we want to add our displeasure to the mix.

We have been loyal Jayhawk fans since we moved to Lawrence over 35 years ago. We have held four season tickets for way over 20 years. We have always had seats in the upper level, section 10A to be exact; not exactly prime seats, but we liked the section and made many friends over the 20-plus years.

We were under the impression that ticket holders since 1984 would be awarded “points” for those years. However, for whatever reason, we ended up with zero points. According to the new seating arrangements that would entitle us, maybe, to be in the “no-fly zone” this coming season. There is no way we are able to make the trek to those seats so we will not be renewing our tickets. We also had season football tickets for a few years but for some reason that wasn’t on our “point” allotment either. We could go up and argue with the powers that be, but our time is valuable and we know it will be useless to pursue it.

Money talks, and that is all the new AD and the chancellor are concerned with. They will have prime seats at the games. Just how much money has either of them donated to the Williams Fund? How many years did they sit in the upper-level seats rooting on the Jayhawks? How many years will they be here? 35? I doubt it.

Thank God for Bob and Max, because that is how we will be cheering the ‘Hawks from now on. We like the new coach, we like the team, we love Lawrence. It’s just too bad a great era is ending for a lot of loyal Jayhawk fans.

Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!

Bob and Norma Bloom,

Lawrence
