Ban supported

To the editor:

Personally, I cannot thank the Lawrence City Commission enough for passing the no-smoking ordinance. I cannot enjoy an establishment when there is cigarette smoke, even a small amount. I am at an establishment for the enjoyment of their food and the ambience of the restaurant and bar. Unless the smoking area is completely self-contained with its own self-contained filtering system, the smoke travels and pollutes the air where nonsmokers are trying to enjoy the restaurant.

Why should smokers feel they should light up anywhere? Smokers can step outdoors to smoke if they so choose. There is no ban on smoking outside the establishments. Smoke ruins the flavor of the food. Smokes chokes the breath out of you and makes it hard to breath. I believe I am in the majority about wanting to eat and enjoy establishments without being subjected to smoke. Count me in for showing my support of this new ordinance. Keep our establishments smoke-free so all can enjoy them. Let smokers step outside to light up if they need to.
