Wet weather cancels some area games
Today’s misty rain has caused the cancellation of tonight’s Douglas County Amateur Baseball Assn. games at the 4H fields. Tonight’s Lawrence Rebels 12-U games in Topeka also have been canceled.
DCABA games at Youth Sports Inc. fields and other local baseball and softball league games also may be canceled because of today’s precipitation.
Lawrence Parks and Recreation field crews started working on fields at 8 a.m., but that work might not be enough to ensure the fields are safe for tonight’s schedule games.
LPR director of maintenence Gary Hines said he and his crew looked at the radar early this morning, so they were able to drag a lot of the fields drug before the rain set in.

“Our primary concern is player safety,” Hines said. “We want to make sure players are not going to slip while they are playing the games.”
Hines said he will wait to make a decision until the latest possible time with the hope that the rainy weather will pass.
Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist, said Lawrence has had 0.54 of an inch at Lawrence Municipal Airport and 0.34 of an inch in downtown Lawrence since the rain began falling this morning.
Sayers said light rainfall was expected to continue through the afternoon.
