Alumnus concern

To the editor:

I find the June 3 editorial, “Alumni strength,” concerning. I met Fred Williams seven years ago on an alumni campus abroad program. Since that time I have had the opportunity to know him better through many association and university events. Williams has always been a man of the utmost integrity, working continuously for the betterment of the alumni association, university, and above all to serve the best interests of the association members. In fact, the alumni association has received millions of dollars because of his leadership. The exact opposite can be said of other staff and board members.

Conspiracy and secrecy cloud the facts surrounding his dismissal. You tout prior directors for their service. However, prior to Williams’ arrival the association was on the verge of financial ruin. It is Williams who corrected that situation and built the association into the nationally recognized organization it is today. He is highly respected nationally.

The contract mentioned will cost the association dearly over the next four years. The board should tell us, as members, specifically what horrible errors caused Williams to be terminated. The board is supposed to represent the members of our association and, as a member, I say they do not and should be removed. I want to know facts, not vague innuendoes with no support as in your editorial. Many association members are not happy with the actions of Warren, Wescoe and others. They owe us, the members, and Williams better.
