Purpose clarified

To the editor:

This is in response to “No Reason?” (Public Forum, July 20). Somehow I knew I would get a reaction like this, and I am sorry I wasn’t more clear. My whole point was that, without God, our lives serve no purpose. We ask the question, why are we here and what can we truly say? If there truly is no God or afterlife, then what are we living for?

I know my purpose isn’t for greed or selfishness. It is to accomplish God’s purpose in my life and the rewards I reap, I will have my chance to lay them at His feet. These rewards I spoke of are not for personal pleasure but to honor one greater than I. I apologize if that is how I came across and I can see why I did. However, my goal wasn’t to state that God gives you treasures if you do good, but that our life has substantial purpose with His presence and will. If we carry out His will, then we have purpose. But if we simply dismiss God, then why are we all here?
