Fireworks blame

To the editor:

The fireworks ban was not created by our city commissioners. It is the result of irresponsible people who a week prior to the Fourth of July and a day or two afterwards would be using fireworks at all hours of the night and day.

Some people like to have windows open. The constant explosions and smell of explosives eliminates that choice. Other types of careless use start fires. Pets sometimes experience what appears to be close to a nervous breakdown.

Then there is the debris to clean up day after day because the culprits refuse to clean up after themselves … bottles, cans and fireworks remains.

You might suggest calling the police. Get real. If the police do not witness the act what can they do? How many police officers are available compared to the number of complaints? Filling out a report can require at least 30 minutes.

If a woman is being raped or an armed robbery is taking place or there is a drunken driver on the road where would anyone expect law enforcement to be … chasing down the many fireworks complaints? Please stop blaming the city commissioners.
