Life purpose
To the editor:
In response to “No religion,” what is its purpose (Public Forum, July 14). I realize that some see religion as a hoax or political leverage to use to get your way, but it means so much more. It may seem simple enough to state that, without religion, life would be peaceful and enjoyable. However, what would be the purpose and reason for living?
A life or world without God gives us no reason to live. Would your purpose be to store up wealth, leave your children an inheritance, succeed in your job or lend a hand to the homeless? The truth is without God we all live an empty existence destined to live for a while and then we die, period. That would be the extent of your life.
What would be the reason to live a life of love and do the best you can if you will reap no rewards for it after you die? I know people and you usually can’t get them to do anything unless they get something for it, whether it be personal gratification or some other compensation. There must be a purpose to the way we live. God gives us a mission and we reap the benefits after our life on earth when we live with Him in paradise.
A life in pursuit of God’s plan, to reach others with His love, isn’t fear-based. God wants everybody in the world to be in His family. God loves each and every one of us, and by living our lives for Him we have purpose.
