Quick tow

To the editor:

I just wanted to make public a problem my friend recently had with a towing company and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Like me, my friend doesn’t have the newest vehicle in town, and recently, it died on him just east of town. After waiting for someone to finally stop and offer assistance, my friend was able to get home and find help to go try to get his vehicle started.

Upon arriving back at where he left his vehicle, he found it to be gone, no trace of it. Of all things, within the 15 minutes it took him to get home and back, it had been towed But that’s not the bad part. He had to pay $118 to get his vehicle back! They must sit and wait for someone’s bad luck and pounce right on it!

I guess if that had been anyone else towing off cars, it’d be called a car theft ring, but when the police authorize it, it’s OK. I hope my friend’s $118 went to good use in someone else’s pocket, because he sure could’ve used it elsewhere. Kind of sounded like a shakedown to me, but that’s just me?!
