Salute! fund-raiser scheduled

The sixth-annual “Salute! — A Festival of Wine & Food,” a three-day fund-raiser for Cottonwood, Inc., will be today through Saturday.

Cottonwood, 2801 W. 31st St., provides employment, residential and support services for people with developmental disabilities in Douglas and Jefferson counties.

The fund-raiser is presented, on behalf of Cottonwood, by Standard Beverage Corp., a Kansas distributor of spirits, wine and beer.

The fund-raiser has three components:

  • 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, “Mass Street Mosey”: Participants sample a variety of wines and gourmet hors d’oeuvres at eight downtown Lawrence businesses. The event begins at US Bank, 900 Mass.
  • 6:30 p.m. Friday, Wine Tasting Dinner: A five-course dinner prepared by Ken Baker, owner and chef of Pachamama’s, 2161 Quail Creek Drive. Courses will be paired with wines from featured vintner, St. Supery.
  • 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Grand Tasting: Attendees can sample wines from approximately 200 vintners, a variety of scotches, specialty beers and martinis, and food prepared by nine Lawrence restaurants and caterers. The event will feature silent and live auctions and cooking-with-wine demonstrations at the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive.
