Too much

To the editor:

Congratulations Lawrence.

Just when I thought you folks could not surprise me with anything you do, you got me. Your citizens come up with a lot of crazy ideas, but this ordinance for chaining animals beats all. While the main ideas behind this are great, the one-hour limit is just plain silly.

Now I am sure the commission was under a lot of pressure to pass this, because I realize you probably had a lot of people there demanding its passage. I can also see the humane society with their compassionate and heart-wrenching stories about animals chained up for days on end. But be realistic, you have opened up a can of worms the size of Memorial Stadium!

Just imagine the number of calls that will be generated by disgruntled neighbors calling in on each other. How in the world is this going to be policed? It will be a nightmare for your police department, who have plenty to do without this.

Don’t get me wrong, the main idea is great, but you have to use a little common sense with this. As usual, the city went way too far in using their authority. But what else is new, right?
