Seeking utopia?

To the editor:

Laws, regulations and ordinances! It seems like everyone in Lawrence has some agenda to push to create their own little utopia. We have had county commissioners wringing their hands over the size of mailbox posts and banning circuses because the owners just might mistreat their animals. In the city, fireworks have been banned, which drives a lot of folks out to the surrounding county. The county commissioners, seeing a way to make a buck, offer to license private displays anytime during the year.

Starting July 1, the city commissioners have banned smoking in enclosed public places. And soon you will not dare to put your dog outside on a “tether” without setting a timer for exactly one hour then make sure they get a three-hour break between “chainings.” I don’t think I would ask my boss for that much of a break after every hour worked! When will it stop? I sure hope no one objects to the camel rides at the fireworks stand on K-10. My hats off to the ultimate example of the lack of political correctness!
