Boatright to lobby for KU

Kansas University will be sending a couple of new faces to the Statehouse this legislative session.

Kevin Boatright, associate executive vice chancellor for university relations, will coordinate state governmental affairs during the 2004 legislative session.

Boatright is replacing Janet Murguia, who held the position since 2001. She is leaving KU for the National Council of La Raza in Washington, D.C. A search for her permanent replacement at KU will begin later this spring, according to KU officials.

Boatright will work with KU administrators to lobby on behalf of KU interests and programs. Boatright has been a KU since 2002. He worked at the University of Wisconsin in university relations for 10 years, where his work included governmental affairs and communications.

Jon Josserand, assistant for governmental relations, will assist Boatright and represent KU in Topeka. Kathy Damron, Topeka, a legislative lobbyist and former staff member for U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts and Gov. Mike Hayden, will also assist Boatright.

Boatright will also lead KU’s integrated marketing communications planning and have oversight over Kansas Public Radio and other university relations responsibilities.
