Offices closed to observe King holiday

Government offices and public services in Lawrence and Douglas County will be closed today in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the federal courts.

Government offices and public services also will be closed in most area towns except De Soto and Eudora, where all offices will be open during regular business hours.

Banks will be closed in recognition of the federal holiday.

Lawrence Bus Co. buses will not run, but MV Transportation will operate on its normal routes.

All Kansas University offices will be closed.

City of Lawrence refuse and trash collection will be altered to make today’s pickups Tuesday and Wednesday. Douglas County trash collection will be delayed by one day.

The Lawrence Public Library will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be no mail delivery today except for Express Mail. Mail pickup from collection boxes won’t be made. All UPS pickups and deliveries will run according to schedule.

The business office at the Journal-World will be open from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

USA Today will be delivered.
