To the editor:

Jayhawks are winners both on and off the field.

The Kansas University football team may not garner much attention in the final collegiate football rankings, but in this person’s humble opinion, they stand head and shoulders above many of the other college football programs around the country.

I had the pleasure of being liaison for coach Mark Mangino and his staff at the Dec. 22 Tangerine Bowl. While in Orlando, the entire Jayhawk contingent conducted itself with a decorum that can only be described as exemplary. KU, the greater Lawrence area and the state of Kansas should be proud of the representation they received by the fine men and women sent to Orlando. In a day and age where many players often comport themselves in a manner detrimental to the image of their university, the KU football team exemplified professionalism at its finest.

The final score may not have been what was desired, but I believe coach Mangino and his staff will be delivering many bowl victories in the years to come.
