In high school: Elwell was a solid No. 1 singles player for coach Dick Wedel’s Lions. He qualified for the state tournament all four years, finishing fifth his freshman, junior and senior years and fourth his sophomore year.

Where is he now?: Elwell is adjusting to college tennis at Iowa University. As one of six freshmen on an incredibly young Hawkeye squad, Elwell already gets ample court time. The highlight of his fall season was a strong showing at the Ball State Invitational. Elwell, along with doubles partner Aaron Schaechterle, advanced to the “C” Flight consolation finals, which eventually was rained out. Elwell also appeared in the Big Ten singles championships, but was ousted in the first round. Iowa competes again Jan. 25.
