Little incentive
To the editor:
Let me see if I understood the mindset of our city commissioners on annexation of property into the city.
1. We can annex you whether you want to be or not.
2. We will assess and tax you for services that the city provides.
3. We won’t be providing services to you any time soon, only when we will get around to it.
4. We won’t allow you to develop your property, even though we are assessing you and taxing you as though it were developed.
5. We will assess you for improvements that we have not yet made, but plan to in the future, some time.
6. When we do allow you to develop your property, we will add restrictions and limitations that will drastically increase the cost of development per square foot.
Gee, all this would make me want to move my business to Lawrence. I wonder how many companies are willing to tie up their moneys for years while the city continues to jerk them around.

Lawrence
