Highlights from the Kansas Legislature

Highlights of Monday’s activities at the Kansas Legislature:

— A House committee endorsed a bill to set minimum health and safety standards for abortion clinics.

— A bill that would allow Kansans to carry concealed weapons cleared committee and went to the House for debate.

— Legislation permitting the state to appeal quickly a judge’s order to revise the state’s school funding formula won first-round House approval.

Also:

— Legislation creating a state animal identification program cleared a House committee minus an earlier provision for fees and penalties on livestock owners.

— Student leaders from state universities lobbied against Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ proposed method of funding raises for state employees.
