Defining marriage
To the editor:
I would like to respond to letters submitted by Lisa Rasor and Dylan Rassier. Ms. Rasor wrote in her letter that gay marriage is a civil rights issue. Excuse me! How did you come to the conclusion that a behavior is a civil rights matter? You should have looked up the definition of civil rights before you tried to compare it with your behavior. Mr. Rassier seems to believe that marriage is no longer considered sacred. You say, what’s the big deal about gays getting married? I hate to have to tell you, but everyone I have spoken to on this matter would disagree with you.
The argument of doing this for spousal rights and benefits is empty. You already have legal recourse to give your partner rights in your personal affairs.
People, let us be honest. This gay marriage issue is nothing more than an attempt to legitimize an abnormal behavior.
No matter how you try to redefine marriage to suit your agenda, the true definition will always be one man and one woman.
M. Lindeman,
Lawrence
