City’s agenda
To the editor:
Our City Commission is involved in a discussion with a group that opposes the USA Patriot Act. One word says it all: “our” City Commission. That means they were elected to represent everyone in the city of Lawrence. They were not elected to represent their own agenda, a neighborhood agenda or some small group’s agenda. If they speak as our City Commission it would come across that they are speaking for all of Lawrence. This is wrong!
As far as I know, no polls have been taken, no elections have been held, nor has this subject been on any ballot. I do not want — and I am sure there are others — the City Commission speaking for me on this subject. If they as individuals want to call a news conference and express their own views, that is fine. I would rather see them work on how to get the T bus system or Eagle Bend Golf Course to make ends meet.
