The whole truth

To the editor:

This is in response to the Feb. 15 letter written by a former military pilot, C.D. Bennett. The record you suggested to be made public on President Bush’s National Guard record was made public just this past week at a White House press briefing for all media to read and release to the public. Everything from day one till the end of his roughly five-year tenure in the Texas Air Guard was minutely detailed and there were no gaps or omissions, except the Social Security number for security reasons. For whatever reason, the media often chooses not to publish or otherwise release such unbiased information to their reading and listening public. Unfortunately, you and thousands of others might otherwise never know these facts.

This record of service was also attested and verified by the commander of the Texas Air National Guard on national TV. Unless you listen to the right channel, such details are sometimes missed or hidden for political reasons. Only one major network that I know of reports the whole truth, unbiased and unafraid.

I, too, am a military veteran pilot and am proud of all who serve. But any veteran of any war who would throw his war medals in a Vietnam War protest into the Boston Harbor, in my opinion, does not deserve to even be a candidate for the office of our commander in chief, the president of the United States.

Dick Hewitt,
