Few students

To the editor:

Your recent article regarding declining enrollment in USD 497 schools overlooks interesting comparisons with other Kansas towns as cited on city-data.com:

1) Lawrence, population 80,000 (excluding KU students), has only 10,000 students — a ratio of 8:1.

2) Garden City, population 30,000, has 7,600 students — a ratio of 4:1.

3) Derby, population 20,000, has 6,600 students — a ratio of about 3:1.

The low ratio of (and so few) students enrolled in Lawrence schools is shocking, and should be a concern.
