No respect

To the editor:

I am a former Boy Scout, and the father of two Scouts, one of whom obtained the rank of Eagle. I must disagree with Ms. Becky Linot’s letter of Jan. 31. Respect is indeed desirable, but responsibility for one’s action and adherence to rules and regulations should, and do, transcend respect as used in this situation. To cheat in a contest surely violates all the principles espoused by Scouting, and those who do so should be, at least, held responsible for their actions. Respect for a cheat? Where has our sense of values taken us?
