Warmer weather moving in

The Kansas River still had chunks of ice floating through it this morning. But the icy leftovers from last week’s arctic blast will break up later today as warmer weather heads in to Lawrence for this week, said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“Once we hit above freezing today, it’s going to be a struggle to fall below it throughout the remainder of 2004,” Sayers said. “We’re going to be mild throughout this week.”

This morning, temperatures were starting out in the upper 20s just before 8 a.m., with a southeasterly 12-mph wind making the windchill reading 19 degrees.

By noon, the temperatures will climb into the low 40s, with the high reaching 49 by late afternoon, and southeast winds 10 to 20 mph under high clouds filtering the sunshine, Sayers said.

“It’s a tad breezy out there,” Sayers said.

More sunshine is expected on Tuesday. Tuesday’s morning low will start at 36, with the high reaching 54 and southwesterly winds 10-20 mph.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 34, with the high reaching 60 by Wednesday afternoon.
